Facts about COVID-19

What is COVID-19?

Note: The following is what’s outlined by the CDC

  • Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an illness caused by a virus that can spread from person

to person.

  • The virus that causes COVID-19 is a new coronavirus that has spread throughout the world.
  • COVID-19 symptoms can range from mild (or no symptoms) to severe illness.

Is Church Home testing residents and staff?

Church Home routinely tests staff and residents each week for COVID-19 using the PCR testing method which has proven most accurate. If a staff member or resident tests positive, or if the community infection rate is high, Church Home tests residents and staff two times weekly. Aggressive testing is the most effective way to identify COVID-19 infections, particularly those that are asymptomatic (showing no symptoms).

Does Church Home have COVID unit?

Early in the pandemic, Church Home identified a hall that could be segregated for isolation of any positive residents. This hallway is separated by two layers of protective barrier and has its own separate HVAC system. All rooms on that hall each have their own individual HVAC unit as well. Staff working on this hall wear full PPE including gown, gloves, face mask, and N95 mask. Access to the hall is restricted.

What is Church Home’s visitation policy?

Like all nursing homes in the USA during the pandemic, visitation has been significantly restricted. Currently, Church Home does not allow any visitors or vendors inside the facility. Visitation for family members in accomplished through phone calls or video chats like FaceTime. Church Home has iPads to facilitate those calls between resident and family. When weather permits, Church Home offers outside visitation by reservation in the park under tents. The no visitor policy and other restrictions continue to be necessary to protect our residents and staff from the virus. We don’t know how long that will last but will take our guidance from the federal Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) and CDC along with Georgia’s Departments of Public and Community Health.

Will Residents and Staff receive the vaccination?

Residents and staff of long-term care facilities are scheduled to be high priority recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine once it is released. Church Home has contracted with CVS Pharmacy to provide and administer the vaccine to all residents and staff. We do not know when the vaccine with be released or be available.
